Because this first blog is about Bengt Johannison view on entrepreneurship ,i shall attempt to discuss his statements and try to make a conclusion out of his teachings.
Johannisson, B. (2010) in his lecture about Entrepreneurial self had made many generic statements about being entrepreneurial as a human capability ,a processual phenomenon, learning and crafting of ones identity.
The ones that stirred my thoughts at the state of mind i am at was the statement that said "Entrepreneuring is learning and learning is entrepreneuring". There were lot of discussions in the class based on the generic statements described by Bengt for example "if being entrepreneurial is a human capability-can everyone be an entrepreneur?" and also if "Entrepreneuring is learnt solely based on practice ,what is the point of studying it at a university?".It was quite surprising to see also that the above question was asked by three different students indicating the question "What’s the whole point ?" was lingering on most of the minds of the students. It was quite interesting to listen to the discussions we had during the class ,however there was no one single way to approach this issue or as i come from an engineering background i would like to put it as "Cannot calculate shortest path to reach the final node".
Before i had pondered upon Bengt Johansson statements and had watched the videos of Perr Davidsson, i tried to randomly look for a definition on the internet When i looked on the definition on what entrepreneur means this was the following definition giving in the dictionary from Onlinedictionary.com .
A person who organizes and manages an enterprise esp. business, usually with considerable initiative and risk
an employer of productive labour,a contractor.
and when i googled it I got the following
Entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur, which is a French word meaning "one who undertakes an endeavor". Entrepreneurs assemble resources including innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrepreneurship
After the discussions in theclass and the reading material, i had come to a personal conclusion that "weather or not everyone can be a entrepreneur?".Id like to say "Everyone can "LEARN" to be entrepreneur but not every can "BE" a entrepreneur , the difference and the answer lies in the way the individuals practice it either with interest or with obsession".

As you mentioned, questions like "why people study entrepreneurship at business school if it's just a process?" made me think. But still I think that's true and entrepreneurship is a process rather than art or theory. According to Bengt, expanding social networks and 'weak ties' and being interactive is a key to become an entrepreneur. But, we can expand our networks and go through the entrepreneurial process while we are studying. A lot of people in entrepreneurship programs seek ways to become entrepreneurs. So maybe it's a good opportunity to make our personal networks.
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI found this quote very interesting, and something I agree with: "Entrepreneuring is learning and learning is entrepreneuring". I also liked that you linked the thoughts about entrepreneurship to your engineering background with your quote: "Cannot calculate shortest path to reach the final node".
Very interesting reading, hope you make some more blog entries!
Take care, Andrea
Hi.
ReplyDeleteI really found it interesting that you have tried to involve your own view and perspective to the learning’s from the literature and seminars. I think that this is one of the most important parts of this course, not to learn the literature by heart but rather to stimulate our thinking and discussions. I tend to agree with you, I do not see myself as an entrepreneur but I believe that if I wanted to become an entrepreneur I could. I think that it much has to do with a mind set and personal aims. Therefore it would be interesting to see if our education which has its focus in entrepreneurship could make us as student more entrepreneurial.
Take care

Thankyou for the comments girls!!!:-D
ReplyDeleteHi Asma,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your approach to this blog entry. And I fully support your opinion that to be entrepreneur can be learned. However, it is different whether it can be implemented into practice. And as we learned by the works of Johanisson, Entrepreneurship is a "social practice" (Johanisson,2009, p.2)

Hi Asma,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your opinion that theory can be taught but practice needs something more and this more is talent and intuition.

Alexander
Hi Asma
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you regarding the fact that anyone can learn how to be an entrepreneur, that is something that I never thought about. And I guess that practice makes perfect just like any other activity the more that people try to better they get at it, the only problem may be that developing too many ventures can be very costly and time consuming.
Cheers!
Great job, pleasure reading your blog.
“I could not have closed on my first home without Mr, Benjamin Lee ! Benjamin and his team went above and beyond for me on this transaction. He handled my very tight turn around time with ease and was always available for me when I had questions (and I had plenty), even when he was away from the office, which I greatly appreciated! He and his team handled many last-minute scrambles with the seller and worked tirelessly to make sure that I could close before my lease (and my down payment assistance, for that matter) expired. Mr Benjamin is incredibly knowledgeable Loan Officer, courteous, and patient. I went through a couple offers on properties before my final purchase and Benjamin was there to help with each one, often coordinating with my agent behind the scenes. I felt supported throughout the entire process. Thanks to Benjamin and the tireless efforts of his team, I am now a proud home owner! I would encourage you to consider Benjamin Briel Lee for any kind of loan.Mr, Benjamin Lee Contact informaions.via WhatsApp +1-989-394-3740 Email- 247officedept@gmail.com.
